2008 Spud Bowl
Scholarships
What is the “Spud Bowl”?
This year’s Spud Bowl football game is tentatively scheduled for
Saturday, September 6, 2008 vs. Webber
International (Florida) at Goerke Field. Now in its 22st year, the Spud Bowl
was initially developed by the Communivercity Committee in cooperation with the Agri-Business
Committee of the Portage County Business Council to highlight the agri-business
industry in the Portage County area.
Money for the scholarship fund is raised annually through what has come to be called "Spud Bowl", an event that is usually scheduled around the Pointers' first home football game. Through the years, nearly $72,000 has been awarded in Spud Bowl scholarships to about 82 students.
Complementing the event’s success in raising scholarship funds, the UWSP football team has responded with a little success of its own in Spud Bowl contests. The Pointers own a sparkling 19-2 record versus Spud Bowl opponents!
